Unit 16

For this unit I will be creating a short promo video for a company called Axis trampoline club using different filming and editing techniques.

P1

This 1 minute 25 second promo video was made to advertise Scottsdale Parkour and free running camp. It was intended to create a fun and safe environment for the viewer and attract young people to do the camp. This promo takes the form of a promo video with audio to accompany. This is a good way of creating a promotion because it lets the viewer see what they are signing up for and what they will get out of it. This promotional video contains video footage of children taking part in free running activities. It also shows footage of the equipment that is used and what the surroundings are like. The editors of this promo video are able to show a happy theme in this video by using an upbeat song and carefully choosing videos that suitably go with the video. The intention of the creators of this video is to make the camp seem fun and energetic to its younger target audience of children to younger teens so by using bright colours and upbeat music with a selected range of videos allow them to do this. The production process of this video would've been a film crew going for a set amount of time to the camp and getting eye catching shots to attract the target audience of parents.

This 5 minute promotional video is made with the purpose to advertise men in the navy's professional gymnastics training. It shows a professional take on mens gymnastics and shows examples of some different areas of training that the men go through. This also takes the format of a video with audio accompaniment. The video contains a wide range of fast changing shots of the men doing training and doing different types of gymnastics by using faced paced clip changes and fast upbeat music it gives the promo an energetic feel and makes it appeal to its navy men target audience. This video is on youtube to advertise the company to men in the navy which is the target audience. The production process for this video would've been a film crew going to a class of the navy mens gymnastics and getting interesting shots of things that they do.

The purpose of this 2 minut promotional video is to present Disney World theme park as a fun attraction that people want to go to. It does this by using eye catching bright colours in the cinematography of the promo and also fast video changes to give it a fast pace. It shows different elements of Disney World which further persuades people to go there by showing a range of activities. It uses lots of different shots such as showing the point of view of people on the rides and lots of different transitions. It takes the form of a video with upbeat music in the background to give an exciting mood. The video contains information about Disneyland along with many different clips showing a range of activities that can be done at Disney World. This promotional video aims to target younger children and parents because it wants people to go to Disney World. The production process that would've been followed when making this video would be a number of film crews spread out around Disney World and for a set amount of time they would film different aspects that would attract their target audience. This would then be compacted and selected in the editing stages.

Title:

Jump Into Action

Idea:

-My first idea begins with a shot following a member of axis staff as they walk through to the trampoline room and explaining a brief introduction to what axis are. This would be an uncut shot and it would finish with a pan across the whole room while people are trampolining. The story would then go into an interview with the manager of the company talking about the different classes that they have on and the different ages. This interview would be filmed with the subject slightly to one side of the shot. It would also feature cutaway shots to action of trampolining which is relevant to what he is saying. Filming for this idea I would decide to film the interview first thing as I got there so that if I needed to I could think of other shots that go with what he was saying. The cinematography for these shots would be brightly coloured to make them look appealing and a range of camera shots would be used using a drone and a GoPro. This promo would be around 1 minute long. The target audience would be from 18 year olds to 50 year olds.

Title:

High Speed Spinning

Idea:

-This idea would not include any interview at all. This would be filmed in a way which shows almost a compilation of action packed segments of the day using a variety of different shots using stills, GoPro shots and using the drone. It would begin by using different transition types such as whip pans to give it a fast pace from the start. This would be accompanied by some fast, upbeat music to make it look fun. It would include a wide range of ages throughout and capture lots of different elements of what they do there. There would also be an equal mix between gymnastics and trampolining to capture the wide range of activities that axis do. This promo would be around 1 minute and contain lots of panned and slow moving shots. The target audience would be from 18 year olds to 50 year olds.

Title:

Jump And Tumble

Idea:

-This idea would only include the audio recording of an interview with both the manager of axis and one or two members of one of the axis classes. These interviews would be played over the top of a compilation of the activities that axis do. The interviewees would either be from a gymnastics class or a trampoline class. The promo would be split in half to show eaqually trampolining and gymnastics. The members of axis would talk about their class over the accompanied with the manager talking about the other things that axis do and making it sound appealing. This promo would use a variety of different shots and would be around 1 minute long. The target audience would be from 18 year olds to 50 year olds.

Call Sheet:

This is a call sheet which is created to give our group a sense of organisation throughout our day of filming. It also details the people on shoot and the location.

Location Release:

The location release form was filled out by the manager of Axis. This is an important document because it shows that we have been given consent to film at Axis.

Production Schedule:

The production schedule is important because it gives a structure to the entire process of a production all the way through. It is essential that it details every stage of a production and it can be kept to as much as possible which will result in a smoother running process of production.

Kit Checklist:

The kit checklist is important because it is a way of organising the equipment and making sure that all of the equipment is there on every day of filming.

Location Recce:

The location recce is a way of assessing the safety of the area and almost acts as a risk assessment for the area. It details any problems or risks around the area and how they can be solved. It also details the facilities around the area.

Risk Assessment:

The risk assessment is important because it details any risks that we might come across while filming, how likely and dangerous that risk is, and what will be done by the group to avoid and overcome the possible risks.

Legal And Ethical:

The legal and ethical document was reviewed by the entire team and we agreed that these were the actions that would be taken to prevent any legal or ethical issues.

Budget:

The budget document details the price of everything within the production and also details the budget for the entire production. for the group there was no budget for this production as all the equipment was provided by Boomsatsuma and there were no other additional costs.

Story Boards:
Story Board Idea 1:

This idea begins with a member of staff from axis walking through to the trampoline room with the Axis logo on the back of their t-shirt. They will be giving a brief introduction about axis.It will then flow into a pan of the gym room with action happening in. In this idea there would be 2/3 interviews which would be filmed and accompanied by cutaway shots with action. It would end with a wide shot of the Axis logo which is on the wall.

Story Board Idea 2:

This idea would not include any visual footage of the interview. Instead, the interview would feature as audio over the top of a compilation of clips from a day at Axis. The clips would have relevancy to what was being said in the interview and would capture an equal range of trampolining and gymnastics and would feature a wide range of age groups.

Treatments:

Further Development:

An idea that I had to further develop this promo video would be to create a longer edit for Axis which follows the same style of this promo video with more elements of interviews and cutaways. Another idea that I had would be to create a short series of tutorial videos for basic gymnastics and trampolining tricks so that people could understand a bit about how they teach and what sort of things they do.

Test Footage:

This test footage was what we filmed in school a week before we visited Axis to film to give us an idea of the shots that we could take using the equipment that we were given.

P4

For P4 I pitched my ideas to the manager of Axis trampolining and gymnastics club from the two treatments that I had created. The pitch took place in school as he came in to hear the pitches a few weeks before we went to shoot there. We had a detailed discussion about both ideas and in the end we came to an agreement that the second idea was the easiest to achieve with the outcome that we wanted. this was an informal style of pitching.

I  have not got a longer clip of my pitch to the manager of Axis. During each pitch he asked me questions about both of my ideas and commented on what I had written on my treatments. He was considering what each of my ideas had which would be possible for the duration of the promo video. At the end of our discussion we concluded that my 2nd idea was the most manageable and therefore that is the idea that I would follow. However I may include a few elements of interview visual footage.
